WHAT IS KRIGSMAN TO YOU?

Krigsman to me is home. I have found a community of like-minded people. The Krigsman community is here for one another, and that’s truly special. There’s an authenticity in the interactions you have with people here, and that authenticity is something we all connect with at a subconscious level.

KATTY’S CLASS: UPLIFTING COMPASSIONATE JOYFUL

  • I love the consistency of the flow, no matter who is teaching the class. This consistency allows you to go deep into your practice because you don’t need to focus on what comes next. While there’s an element of that when you’re first starting out, it doesn’t take long to pick up the basic structure of the class and, once you do, you can simply be in your practice. And that is where the magic lies: the more you get to know the flow, the more you get to know yourself.

I mentioned this before, but it really is the authenticity of the people at Krigsman that make it a special place. What you see is very much what you get, and I feel as though the people who come here and stay here, do so for this reason.

Finally, the Krigsman values. For example, we have GOOD ENOUGH written on the studio wall. It’s not a slogan; it’s a deep-seated value that is reinforced in our words and actions. It’s not about nailing the poses; it’s about showing up as you are and being willing to do the work for yourself. It’s your practice and you get what you need from it. The only person with expectations of you is you.

  • I feel clear, centered, and calm. The inner peace that practicing at Krigsman has brought me is the thing that stands out the most for me.

There’s also valuable insight that I have gained about how I am showing up in my life based on how I am showing up on my mat. And this, for me, is the magic of yoga. I’ve come to my mat and have been able to work through resistance in my life off the mat based on how I was resisting getting in and out of certain poses on the mat. Practicing yoga at Krigsman has given me this clarity because, again, how you show up on your mat is how you show up in your life.

  • Extending compassion to myself. It links back to placing high expectations on myself and having that internal dialogue that breeds self-doubt and self-criticism. I am my own worst critic. I have come to realize that when you are able of extend yourself some kindness and compassion, only then are you capable of doing the same with other people.

  • What would I do if I was not afraid? Wow… Everything! I can’t pinpoint one single thing. Most importantly, though, I would stop overthinking and unnecessarily doubting myself.

There are people who haven’t yet walked through Krigsman’s doors because their fear is stopping them. Some fear they don’t have a ‘yoga body’, or that they don’t know the poses. Some fear the heat, or that only the ‘fancy people’ come here. Their fear is getting in the way of experiencing a welcoming, caring community, and the life-changing practice that is yoga. Remember: your fear is full of sh*t.

WHAT DOES THE HARD MEAN TO YOU?

“Hard is something I tell myself I can’t or won’t do. I get better at hard by first examining my limiting mindsets. For example, is it actually hard or am I afraid to give it a go? Does it have to be hard or am I complicating things? After that, I consider the physical limitations I might be working with. Am I tired? Am I lacking in strength? What will it take to physically do the hard thing? From there, I change the things I can. The things I can’t change, I accept and work with, around, or through. Some things are hard and that’s okay. What matters is how you engage with the hard.”

KATTY’S TOP TUNES

For me, music provides an emotional draw. A song can take me right back to a particular time, place, or experience. Music just has that amazing ability to draw us right back to a moment in time.
